A 2D floor plan includes room layouts, wall positions, fixtures such as doors, windows and stairs. 2D floor plans are AutoCAD drawings that provide a topological view with no depth or height reference. 3D floor plans are drawn in three dimensions, i.e length, width and height.

A 3D floor plan includes intricate details such as walls, doors, windows, furniture, floors, etc. It also shows an aerial view of the property, allowing architects to easily propose interior design changes.
